Each month we focus on a maker who creates recycled products and sells via the Recycleopedia shop
It started on the road. I was living and travelling in a converted fire engine and found inner tubes to be tough and useful.
There is so much waste about, the world's getting fuller - there's absolutely no need for the production of new materials. Let's use up what's here first!
I'm inspired by the idea of transformation. Also by nature, architecture, Art Deco, the 1980s.
Creativity and problem-solving.
Many people start off saying how much they love the designs, without realising they're made from recycled material. The surprise when they find out is great to see and confirms my intentions - firstly to make great designs, secondly to use recycled material.
Online and in boutiques worldwide.
Of the original designs I like Tsubi, (handbag made from lorry inner tubes and featuring criss cross stitching) and Imma, (a handbag made from locally sourced inner tubes). I use a Tom wallet and a Natalia which is my favourite design of all (coming soon!)
By making laptop and tablet cases, lined versions, and oh, I have so many design ideas!
It sounds clichéd, but I would urge people to think outside the box - see the use in everything and throw away only when things are totally redundant. It's a great way to save money - I'll always try to re-use something rather than buy a new item, whatever the situation.
